Thanks so much to everyone who got involved with the first UKFEchat meet in London. In the space of 3 hours we explored many of the ideas that had been discussed in the Twitter chats as well as blasting out a few new ones too.
Here's a flavour of what's to come....
UKFEchat Guide Books
A series of guide books with 3 releases per year (one per term) with a specific theme, so for example:
- Stretching and Challenging
- Making sure learning happens
- Motivating the hardest to reach
- Addressing challenging behaviour
- The first 10 minutes,
- Inter departmental collaboration
- Surviving the first years in FE
- What I learned from my worst session
- Embedding Maths
- Finding the time to reflect
…. and many more. Each book will comprise of contributions between 500-1500 words from UKFEchat authors, giving opportunity to present as sits best with the author- tips, anecdotes, essays. There may be a nod to the vocations of the authors but the contributions don’t have to be vocationally specific. It’s up to you how you write.
I will be editor of the collection, gathering content, working with the individual authors and pulling the work together.
The books will be free to access and will be distributed in accessible digital formats: PDF, epub, rtf through ukfechat.com and on the Amazon Kindle and Apple iBooks store.
They provide an ongoing opportunity for sharing of good practice, genuinely useful to people in FE at all levels, generating increased influence for every contributing author, associated college and corporate partner. The group discussed the theme for the first one. It will be called....
The UKFEchat guide to getting off to a good start.
This can encapsulate initial assessment, behaviour management, inspiring the learners or in fact any useful thoughts, ideas, tips, anecdotes or advice as to how to start the new academic year well. It will be published this September.
MORE NEWS ABOUT THIS COMING VERY SOON!
UKFEchat Local Meets
Series of small gatherings led by UKFEchat contributors to engage their own local networks and to encourage practitioners to get involved with communities of good practice created and directed at a grass roots level. Attendees may be mentored onto Twitter and introduced to the #UKFEchat weekly discussions.
Each local meet will be documented and shared with the wider UKFEchat community via the website, offering potential for regional connectivity. This could be weekly, monthly or per term and be as formal or informal as you like. What ever works best...
UKFEchat National Meet
An event directed by UKFEchat contributors from all areas of the sector as a real life version of the Twitter meets and a celebration of the sector's work. The event will comprise of panel discussions led by practitioners and themed 'chats' with the aim of enabling cross sector collaborations and CPD opportunities.
The outcome from this gathering will be a series of policy recommendations based on attendees’ input, to present to government. The event will take place in May 2015 during half term.
The site will be upgraded to form a hub of activity and bring additional group initiatives together, including a mentoring scheme, pre Twitter chat information, a place to share news of UKFEchat Local Meets and an opportunity to upload short films to share good practice. Our hope for the site is to develop its reach, extending to local sub-sites. Basically the Mumsnet for FE!
It's a pivotal time for UKFEchat and things are moving very quickly. I'm currently exploring ways to develop our group in order to support all these exciting projects, continuing to embrace our unique identity, which places us at the heart of the FE and skills sector. I’ll share the developments as soon as they arrive.
These exciting times have been brought about by your energy, creativity and optimism. Thank you Team UKFEchat. You’re marvellous!
PS. The next real life meeting will be in Central London on Saturday 28th June. Get it in your diary! More details coming soon.
