Saturday April 12th. 1-4pm
The House of St Barnabas, 1 Greek St, Soho Square, London W1D 4NQ
It's not long until the first ever UKFEchat real life gathering. There were only 20 places available which all went in the first day. Hurrah! Once again my belief that you are a group of the most engaged, most motivated, most dynamic people in the sector was confirmed.
If you're unable to join us on the day don't fret. I'm hoping that the good people at the event will document proceedings in all sorts of modern ways and we'll find a method to put it all together and share it.... I'm also hoping someone will teach me some techie wizardry to do this!
I'm vibrating with excitement at meeting so many of you in real life and am looking forward to a useful and happy afternoon.
- To share something good.
I'd really appreciate it if you'd come ready to share a bit of good practice. This can be as formal or as informal as you like; I promise that I won't cattle-prod you into holding court if that isn't your thing. It can be a 5 minute presentation with disco lights and back up dancers, an anecdote about a good session or a quick tip. What ever suits. This means that everyone should go home with some new way which will positively affect their day to day work life.
- To develop a new working relationship.
It would be brilliant to go home having made friends with a new sector colleague to collaborate with, to support or be mentored by. It's so easy to become swamped with life in our own organisations and having a friend on the outside with a different perspective can foster amazing creativity as well as providing an occasional kick up the backside when needed!
- To get involved in moving the conversation forward.
The people who use their much needed downtime to get together on Thursday evenings to discuss work stuff on Twitter are the people who recognise what a fortunate position they are in to have a career in which their daily work could change someone's life for the better. Working in FE isn't always easy but we as a group can collectively shove a rocket up the the sector and get others excited about the massively important work that they do. Let's think of how we can move the conversation forward and start to take action!
My main hope for the first UKFEchat Meet is to have a lovely time. There's a PIzza Express and lots of pubs nearby, should anyone fancy moving the chat on after The House of St Barnabas. Should we arrange something or just see what happens? What d'you think?
Any questions, suggestions or ideas please do get in touch. I'm @MrsSarahSimons or on firstname.lastname@example.org
See you soon,
ps. The tickets for the meet were allocated on a first come first served basis. If you have a ticket and it turns out you can't make it, pleeeeeease let me know so I can pass your place to someone else.
Big thanks to the kind people at City & Guilds andToshiba for making the first UKFEchat meet possible.
